Fatimah Al Jarrari

Artist · Designer · Curator · Art Director · Cultural Practitioner

Fatimah Al Jarrari is a multidisciplinary artist, creative director and contemporary designer whose practice spans more than four decades across art, fashion, textiles, spatial design and cultural production.

Rooted in her Moroccan heritage and informed by a global perspective, Al Jarrari explores the relationship between material, memory, culture and human experience. Her work moves fluidly between garment, textile, object and architectural space, bringing traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic expression into dialogue.

Her practice is deeply sensory. Through her deep research of natural materials, antique and repurposed textiles, scent, light, sound and spatial composition, she creates immersive environments and works that engage both the senses and the imagination. Her ongoing work into Moroccan materials, antiquities, artefacts, courtyards and architectural spaces reflects a fascination with how culture and material can transform the experience of place.

Al Jarrari works closely with artisans internationally, particularly in Morocco, developing limited-edition textiles and carpets that honour traditional techniques while embracing contemporary authorship. She designs a limited number of carpets each year, with individual works taking approximately two years to realise through meticulous collaboration with master artisans.

Her contribution to the arts extends beyond her own studio practice. Over several decades, she has worked as an educator, curator, artistic director and cultural producer, creating platforms for artists and developing multidisciplinary exhibitions, fashion presentations and cultural events in Australia and internationally.

She is the founder of Morocco Global, a cultural and creative platform connecting Moroccan heritage and craftsmanship with contemporary art, design and international cultural exchange.

From Melbourne to Morocco and beyond, Al Jarrari's practice is an ongoing exploration of heritage, transformation and the enduring power of human creativity.
